Early start today. Dublin woke me up at 4am this with a loud, panicked meow. Roughly translated. “CHRIS, WHERE ARE YOU?!”
Hello friends, today would have been lost day 12, instead, it’s home day 1. I had already started day 12’s update yesterday (read it at the bottom of this update). We had started to think that we can’t find him, he’ll find us. The tone of today’s would be update is less confident than others. We were moving into “he’ll be back on his own”.
So earlier on day 11 I placed an order for more motion detecting cameras so that if he returned home over night, we would most definitely know. We were planning to place a trail camera nearby at a neighbours stray cat shelter to see if Dublin was getting food and water overnight.
I bought printer supplies and designed a new flyer to replace the faded, wet flyers that have been up for 9 days. We were far from giving up on him, but definitely feeling less confident that a search would find Dublin – Dublin would find us.
It’s difficult to find a cat that doesn’t want to be found by anyone or anything.
This is a frame grab carrying Dublin home from where I found him just short of 400 feet away.
Today Dublin is eating, drinking, sleeping, doing the things that cats are supposed to do in a litter box. He has a vet appointment next week to take care of anything he might of got into.
I wish this ending for every owner of a lost pet. But shorter.
Day 12 draft update before he was found.
Day 12 – tl;dr; no cat
We have done everything suggested to us and anything we can think of to find him, or in the least, help him find us.
It’s all we think about. Things that need to get done around the house aren’t getting done. If I’m not looking for him I feel like I’m not doing everything I can do to find him and bring him home.
I don’t have a lot of photos of Dublin in my camera roll, my wife does. She made a desk calendar for me and so every month there’s a new photo featuring Dubs dressed up in something. Maybe a tie, or a hat. It’s a great calendar. It’s hard to look at when he’s missing.
