Lost for 11 Days
THANK YOU
He’s been telling us stories all evening. We couldn’t be happier.

Found June 25th around 7:20pm Days missing: 11
He’s lost a pound or two, his white fur isn’t as bright white as normal, he smells of skunk but other than that, this boy is in good shape. He’s been very talkative since I brought him home.
Cats that were not Dublin
Thank you for all of the calls for possible sightings. These are some of the cats that were not Dublin.

Latest Updates
- Shoulder Cat
Asleep on my shoulder Dublin didn’t end up outdoors because he seized an opportunity to escape. A door didn’t blow open (though that has happened to us before). A window screen didn’t fall out. He didn’t slip out around our legs. He’s not a cat that wears a lead and harness—though that would be cool. He’s never had an indication that he’s wanted outside for any reason.
He’s a bit of a shoulder cat—hanging out and keeping watch. I often do housework while he lounges on my shoulders. He’s even been caught snoozing there once or twice. When it’s time to take out the trash, he’s been known to make the trip with me.
A series of events led up to his panicked escape. We were outside meeting a new neighbour’s kitten when something spooked Dublin. As I was taking him inside, he jumped down onto the deck, ran underneath it, and when I reached for him, he bolted.
The way Dublin ran definitely worried us—he looked absolutely terrified. We didn’t know how far a scared cat might go. We were sure he ran so fast and so blindly that he wouldn’t have a clue how to get back home.
- Home Day 3
We caught up on our Saturday YouTube videos today with Dublin hanging out on the couch. He kneads far more often than he used to before he went missing. He’s also smelling less like skunk. Also, he’s definitely catching up on sleep (we all are ;))
We’ve treated him for fleas, ticks and worms with a follow up vet appointment later this week.
He’s expressed absolutely no interest in trying to get outside since his return.
After we finished our YouTube play lists, I made an update flyer to stick on the lost cat flyers we had around the community. Most had already been taken down. Whether or not it’s necessary, we had a lot of people watching out for Dublin and so I thought it was a nice gesture to let people know this was a great ending to the story.
- Home Day 2
As I type away on this update, Dublin is curled up on my arm, purring away. He’s happy to be home, we’re happy he’s home.
Would the streets change him?
When Dublin was missing, there were so many worries. One of the worries was some kind of traumatic event would change his personality. I was worried he would be nervous about everything, jumpy and I was worried he would come back very skinny. Would he want to get outside again?
After two nights home, for the most part, he seems to be the same as he was before he ran off.
Noticeable changes are that he’s a little more vocal, in particular at bed time. It’s like he wants to make sure everyone is still here and that he’s not alone when the lights are off. I just call his name out, his cry changes tone and he seems to say “oh, ok, just checking“.I’m quite sure what happens to the blog once I publish the found him story.
- Home Day 1
Dublin is home:, Day 1 🥹
Early start today. Dublin woke me up at 4am this with a loud, panicked meow. Roughly translated. “CHRIS, WHERE ARE YOU?!”Hello friends, today would have been lost day 12, instead, it’s home day 1. I had already started day 12’s update yesterday (read it at the bottom of this update). We had started to think that we can’t find him, he’ll find us. The tone of today’s would be update is less confident than others. We were moving into “he’ll be back on his own”.
So earlier on day 11 I placed an order for more motion detecting cameras so that if he returned home over night, we would most definitely know. We were planning to place a trail camera nearby at a neighbours stray cat shelter to see if Dublin was getting food and water overnight.I bought printer supplies and designed a new flyer to replace the faded, wet flyers that have been up for 9 days. We were far from giving up on him, but definitely feeling less confident that a search would find Dublin – Dublin would find us.
It’s difficult to find a cat that doesn’t want to be found by anyone or anything. This is a frame grab carrying Dublin home from where I found him just short of 400 feet away.
Today Dublin is eating, drinking, sleeping, doing the things that cats are supposed to do in a litter box. He has a vet appointment next week to take care of anything he might of got into.
I wish this ending for every owner of a lost pet. But shorter.
Day 12 draft update before he was found.
Day 12 – tl;dr; no cat
We have done everything suggested to us and anything we can think of to find him, or in the least, help him find us.
It’s all we think about. Things that need to get done around the house aren’t getting done. If I’m not looking for him I feel like I’m not doing everything I can do to find him and bring him home.
I don’t have a lot of photos of Dublin in my camera roll, my wife does. She made a desk calendar for me and so every month there’s a new photo featuring Dubs dressed up in something. Maybe a tie, or a hat. It’s a great calendar. It’s hard to look at when he’s missing.
- Dublin Is Home
Dublin?
(that tiny meow)Friends, it brings me no finer joy than to let you know that after 11 days lost in the wilderness that is Chateau Estates (and without a single confirmed sighting!) I found Dublin at 7:20pm June 25th.
He was just 116m (381ft) from home in the direction that he ran off.
He kind of smells a little of skunk.
He’s shedding like he’s never shed before.
He’s talking like he’s never talked before.
He maybe dropped a pound or two.
He is in great shape considering how long he’s been missing.
I will tell the story about finding Dublin soon. For now, I have some sleep to catch up on and a thank you list to compile.
- Day 11
tl;dr; Still no sightings
We saw a lot of things, but no Dublin.Another day, another walk about shaking a treat bag. It was bloody hot yesterday so our walk was later in the evening than usual.
We spotted 3 skunks, it’s amazing how quickly a skunk can disappear in an impossibly small crack under a building.
Patty the cat was hanging out on Selkirk, A new grey tabby cat spotted on the 60-90 block of Heritage. A bit grumbly and hissy as s/he approached us. I offered a treat, s/he accepted. We’re best friends now.
We spotted another new cat on Wolfe, it wasn’t Dublin and this cat dashed into cover before I could grab a photo. We spotted a bunny (Hare) at the end of the Tuesday’s search route. But still no Dublin.
Heritage 60-90 Block Definitely not Dublin. Most everyone we talk to still has an eye out for Dublin.
One thing we haven’t tried is a very early morning walk. So at 2 am I got up and walked the route again. It was still 22°C with a “feels like” 30°C. Quietly calling Dublin’s name I searched the shadows with a pen light hoping to catch some eyes. Not one cat. Sorry about your dog(s)freaking out at 0230. That’s the thing about dogs.
There were two visits on the deck last night. Murphy came to visit just after 4am.
- Day 10
tl;dr; no sightings.
this is getting old, cat. come home.We had a visitor last night, this is either Salem or Simon, two black cats that live 2 houses away. I have more confidence that the camera detection works for cats. One of them recorded nothing, though. 🤨
We walked the entire neighbourhood last night shaking a treat bag. We met some neighbours and still, no sightings. I learned that Patty explores more of the neighbourhood that I realized, but not on a regular basis.
We heard more stories of cats coming home after weeks missing. These are the stories I keep thinking about. I would love nothing more than to provide an update here that Dublin is home.
Posters are still up in the places we left them, thank you for leaving them in place. They might need an update.
Being an indoor cat Dublin doesn’t have the instinct to stay close to home, that is if he even knows where home is. I feel like he’s just going to stumble into home one day. That said, I am jealous of the indoor/outdoor cats who rarely stray more than 5 houses from home.
With no sightings, there’s still the worry that he’s trapped in a shed but I think most people would have needed to cut the lawn in the last 10 days, so, he’s had an opportunity to move on. But we’d still really appreciate it if you could do a deep search to the darkest corner of your shed. ❤️
Cats are connoisseurs of comfort.

- Day 9
tl;dr; still nothing
it rained yesterday. We managed to get a walk in, not a single cat was spotted. Even the cats that like to be outside weren’t outside.
Nothing but bugs on the camera footage last night.
Weekends without Dublin suck. He is our YouTube snug bug, keeping us company while we catch up on our favourite channels.
🥺
- Day 8 June 22
tl;dr; still no sightings
We had a false alarm yesterday for a cat in the 60-90 area of Heritage. This isn’t the first time we’ve had a call for this cat on the same street. He’s friendly, but in a “you come to me” kind of way. Added this boy to the “Not Dublin” gallery.
We walked late on Saturday night hoping that the calm would help draw Dublin out. We had a small pen light trying to catch his eyes and we shook the treat bag. Not a thing.
Earlier in the day a thread popped up in a lost pets group of a cat with markings very close to Dublin’s markings. The problem was that this cat is in Stratford. 10km away as the bird flies, virtually impossible for Dublin to get there on his own.
The search area is expanding . New posters outside of our community in places I hope Dublin didn’t get to. More eyes can’t hurt, though.
- Day 7 June 21
tl;dr;
🥺 One week, no confirmed sightings. This milestone sucks.
An unfamiliar cat was spotted outside of the area we’ve been mostly looking.
An unfamiliar cat with white markings may have been spotted at a stray shelter nearby
Maybe Dublin sprinted until he couldn’t anymore and is much further away than we think. As always, we thank you for keeping an eye out for Dublin. We’ve met some incredibly caring people watching out for our buddy.
It rained for a long time last night, maybe the weather has motivated Dublin to move, hopefully closer to home.
Can a cat disappear community with 167 homes and completely evade detection for an entire week?
So now what
Hundreds of lost cat flyers have been distributed, one to each home in our community. We’ve left out food, water, shelter, left clothing outside along with his blanket. We’ve played the sound of his favourite squeak toy outside all night long. We’ve made it so that if Dublin find his way back, this is his home. No question.
We check the lost pets groups PEI Humane Society found pets daily.
We’ve looked under sheds, under trees, under shrubs. I’ve crawled under houses, and we’ve walked the same route nightly hoping that it leaves some kind of trail to help him sniff his way home.
It’s hard to say it, but it seems we have done everything we can do and now it’s up to the community to watch out for him and Dublin to make himself known.
Do working search dogs need training exercises to help keep their skills sharp?
Cats have names.
We’ve learned that Tabby8 is Murphy and Calico8 is Patty. Properly packaged in order, Patty & Murphy. Genius sibling names. Patty is really friendly and trots over to say hello to get some scratches. Murphy keeps his distance yet always seems jealous that he’s not getting attention. It looks like he so wants to trust people. You can trust me, Murph. I give good scratches.
- Day 6 June 20
tl;dr;
Still no confirmed sightings. I commando crawled under a trailer in the dirt “just maybe”. We walked the same route.nothing.
Still no sightings even though it seems the entire community is watching for him. Almost everyone we encounter on our nightly walks will check in. Usually the greeting is “No luck yet, hey?”
Last night, with permission I executed a deep search under a house in the direction that Dublin sprinted. Decked out in full coveralls, a headlamp and even an FLIR camera hit the deck and commando crawled through the damp dirt. Truly a great hiding spot, but not Dublin’s hiding spot. No luck here, but you already knew that.
Both Amber and I walk a similar route each night just after the sun goes down. Since Dublin truly sprinted at top speed he might need help finding home. Hoping he’ll stumble upon the route we walk and he can follow his nose home.
When it comes to missing cats, we’ve heard everything from “There he was the next morning” all the way up to “5 months later boom, right out there the lawn.”
Ok, Dublin. Tomorrow marks a week since you sprinted. Your escape is my fault, not yours. So maybe you’re mad, or scared, or maybe you’re having a blast out there on your own. You can come back home now and be spoiled. k
- Day 5 June 19
No confirmed sightings.
Special thank you to everyone who is keeping an eye open for Dublin, especially Francine.
We had a report from a community two kilometres away (in the direction that Dublin fled). By the time we arrived on location we couldn’t see any cats in the area. The first report came in on Saturday June 14th – the same day Dublin went missing. It’s incredible to consider a house cat could cover 2km through fields, across highways and around ponds. We had a cat visit our deck last night ( June 18th). This is not Dublin. This sighting also confirmed that video captured of a Sunday night visit was not Dublin as we had hoped.
I’ve named this cat Tabby8. Tabby8 lives up the street with Calico8. - Day 4 June 18
Yesterday missing cat flyers lead to a few calls and text messages with possible sightings (thank you, everyone!) We followed up on sightings in the area and can confirm that at least one sighting was a similar looking tabby, but not our Dublin.
We even had messages sending along good vibes from complete strangers confident that Dublin will find his way home in due time. Thank you, everyone. The night of June 17th we played a recording of Dublin’s favourite squeak toy through our kitchen window all night long – if he was close, we’re sure this sound would have been a definite “This is a home sound”.
- Day 3 June 17
No confirmed sightings.
Missing cat posters distributed to all addresses in Chateau Estates & Lakeview Drive.
We did confirm that Dublin crossed Cartier Avenue to 15 Cartier Area. From there maybe Dublin crossed Wolfe, we’d just be guessing. - Day 2 June 16
No confirmed sightings
Added printable lost cat flyer - Day 1 June 15
No sightings. I searched after dark using a light, hoping to find eyes looking back under a bush, tree or deck. We had a visit from the RCMP as someone reported a bearded man looking in yards. That was me, I’m sorry for freaking out our neighbours.
- June 14th – Escape Day
Dublin got spooked and ran from 20 Cartier Ave.
Last seen as a blur between 18 and 16 Cartier Ave possibly crossing the road to 13 Cartier areaDublin is an indoor cat and it’s his first time outside. He is likely scared and easily frightened by loud vehicles. There’s a chance he snuck into a shed, if you have a shed please check for him. He is VERY hard to see in the dark and will likely choose to hide in the very darkest corner.
